Chief Bob Gloade

Millbrook First Nation Chief

Robert (Bob) Gloade was elected as Chief for the Millbrook First Nation for his seventh consecutive term and has served for six consecutive terms as a council member before elected as Chief. Chief, Gloade resides in Millbrook with his wife Kelly and two sons.

Chief Gloade graduated from Saint Mary's University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree; a double Major in Management and Human Resource Management, and Industrial Relations. In addition, he has over 12-years experience in the Banking Industry including Account Manager, focusing on Small Business, Personal Finance, and Aboriginal Banking.

Over the years, Chief, Gloade has and continues to represent the Mi’kmaq community interests with Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq, The Assembly of Nova Scotia Chiefs, Co-Chair / Executive Board and Audit and Finance for Atlantic Policy Congress, Mi’kmaq Family and Community Services, Ulnooweg Development Corp., Mi’kmaq Employment Training Secretariat, and Saint Mary’s University Board of Governors.

Working collectively to seek solutions in the midst of challenges as they occur, ensures the success of our community moving forward. Chief, Gloade remains fully committed to addressing community and all band member concerns at every level of negotiated partnerships with municipal, provincial and federal government. Chief, Gloade continues to focus a steadfast reconciliation and action that honors the spirit of unity and trust between First Nation people and Canada.

Carley Gloade

Councillor

Carley was born and raised in the Millbrook First Nation, she has a strong passion for driving her community forward and being a strong advocate for indigenous people as a. whole but specifically for the members of her home community. 

Aside from her position on the Millbrook Chief and Council, Carley is the Vice Chair of the Nova Scotia Career Development Association Board of Directors and the Human Resources Manager for the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association.  

Carley attended Saint Mary’s University to obtain a bachelor’s degree with a Major in Sociology and a Minor in Religious Studies. She continued her education via NSCC and enrolled in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Non-Profit Management and later at Dalhousie University in Career Development Services Level I and II. Carley worked for the Millbrook First Nation for 10 years as the Native Employment Officer, the Native Employment Office Coordinator and the receptionist.

Carley is an avid athlete and participates in sports regularly. She has been playing competitive volleyball for 22 years, has won two NSSAF Tier 1 Championships, multiple Club Championships and is a part of the reigning 7-year champions of the NSMSG Women’s Volleyball. Carley was also avid in Track & Field and won three Provincial titles in the 80 m hurdles and set a regional record for the fastest 80m hurdles sprint on a dirt track in 1998. 

Carley is currently the volleyball coach for the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Summer Games Millbrook Female volleyball teams, North American Indigenous Games U19 Female Volleyball Team and the U15 Truro Cougars Assistant Coach, who were the 2019 Provincial champions in their division.

Ward Markie

Councillor

Ward Markie is currently serving his third term as Councillor. Ward has been married to his wonderful wife Brenda since 1988, they have two great children Roseanne & Luke, and two beautiful grandchildren Alyssa & Grayson. Ward is looking forward to working with Chief & Council to make things better for all of our people. Ward believe that as a strong team we can over come any obstacle that stands in the way of our people, so our band members and their families can have a great future, to stand proud for themselves and our community.

Lisa Marshall

Councillor

Lisa is serving her second term as councillor for Millbrook First Nations.  She’s an honorable strong Mi’kmaq woman that likes to engage and listen to members of the Millbrook band.  She is a traditionalist and believes in her culture.

Lisa’s education and 25 years background in business are assets that can promote enterprise in our community.    Having obtained a bachelor of commerce from Saint Mary’s University, her theoretical and practical knowledge in business development and management has provided Lisa with the necessary experience to run numerous successful businesses in Truro, which were sold for a profit.   

Lisa plans on working for the betterment of on-reserve, and off-reserve members, which includes our satellite communities.  Lisa’s integrity, honesty and strength will help lead our community.   Lisa is also a strong believer in transparency for the betterment of our band.
