When Bazil Peters' family first opened Glooscap's Trading Post in the 1930's their store consisted of one product. They made and sold hand-woven baskets. These baskets became quite popular for carrying groceries and at that time were mainly purchased for this purpose. Today the store still sells the same handmade baskets. Take a peek inside Glooscap's Trading Post now though, and you will see they have added to their collection of handmade products. Aboriginal artisans from throughout the Maritime Provinces sell their artwork, crafts, clothing and other goods here. You will see enchanting paintings that tell stories of Mi’kmaw legends; gorgeous soapstone carvings; traditional moccasins; dream catchers; hand-painted Mi'kmaw drums; and a long list of other Aboriginal and Inuit handcrafted products. The store also sells books on the Mi’kmaw language and legends. Glooscap’s Trading Post is truly a unique place to visit. Just browsing the aisles is an experience you won’t soon forget!
